Dr. Sardella, who has been in practice since 1994, is a life-long resident of Chester County. He graduated from Coatesville High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Dr. Sardella received his Doctor of Optometry degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed further in-depth training during rotations at Lankenau Hospital and Hahnemann University Hospital and Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Dr. Sardella has treated patients with low vision at Crozer-Chester Medical Center and at the Feinbloom Center for Low Vision in Philadelphia. At Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital, he worked with head injury patients and trauma victims on restorative vision techniques. He also studied at the pediatrics department at the Eye Institute in Philadelphia. In 1999 Dr. Sardella opened the first office of Sardella Eye Associates in Coatesville. To help better serve patients, he later opened a location in Kennett Square.
In his free time, Dr. Sardella enjoys spending time with his wife, Molly, his three daughters, Emily, Katie, and Maria, as well as his two dogs, Rocco and Luca, and singing in a local band.
Starting in February, 2023, Dr. Maria Downey is joining our Coatesville Practice!
She will be the newest member of Sardella Eye Associates and is happy to join our team! Dr. Downey received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Binghamton University and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry. She completed her clinical internships with OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD and the Wilmington VA Medical Center in Wilmington, DE. Dr. Downey also completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Co-Management at Omni Eye Specialists in Baltimore, MD and a faculty appointment at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University. Dr. Downey has extensive clinical experience with special interests in diabetic eye care and anterior segment disease.
Dr. Downey and her husband are settled in Western Chester County. In her spare time, Dr. Downey enjoys hiking, photography, traveling and studying martial arts.
